He completed his bachelor's degree from Sri Sankara College, Kaladi. During that time, he won several awards in the state level for mimicry.
He is married to actress Parvathy, and their son Kalidasan is a child film artist who won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist in 2003.
Jayaram also has a daughter, Malavika. The family lives in Chennai and Cochin.
